Mists

"The house of El Capitan is set on a verdant countryside about half an hour drive from the  town of Hondradez. The rolling hills leading to the place are dense with fruit trees, coconuts, and vines that arch on the roads. But what is  distinct about the place is the amount of humidity there. Even in hot summer months, one could feel  a certain coolness surrounding the hills as low lying mists cover the landscape, an occurrence found nowhere else in Hondradez nor any other village or barangay around it...."

"In the afternoons, Uncle Jacques had this habit of going to the end of the library, where there was a passage of staircases leading to a small turret at a corner. The turret rose to the highest point of our house. Standing on that small space, one could see the horizon dissolving faintly at the end of the ocean. With a thoughtful look at the splendid view,  Uncle Jacques began the tales of his life..."
